The SIMS Virtual Reality (VR) Mining Environments are used for training, education and as outreach tools. These groundbreaking VR environments are currently being used in mining education at universities, in professional training at mining companies and for young people at several Swedish science centers.

The VR environments were produced by the Luleå University of Technology divisions Visual Arts and Mine Rock Engineering, together with the rest of the consortium in Sustainable Intelligent Mining Systems (SIMS), a Horizon 2020 project running from 2017 to 2020. They are now being updated in a VR-environment outreach project financed by the Swedish Mining Innovation program.
